Neighbors stroll by as they walk
their dogs: all sizes, colors and
shapes. Not as often we observe a cat
on a leash. Sitting in his favorite front
porch rocking chair, my husband muses
that we have our own petting zoo. A
daring rabbit hopped right up to him on
the porch recently, neither afraid of the other.
Our garden snake meanders nearby to
find shade on a hot summer day. We
continue to be entertained by birds singing.
The backyard is a source of more
entertainment as we watch the chipmunks,
and squirrels. Never a dull moment in our
neck of the woods. Sometimes a neighbor
strolls by, waves and walks into the yard
to exchange a short conversation while
I cut a fresh bouquet of zinnias to give to
her as we smile. We hear children at play in
a backyard swimming pool. Sometimes
they accept an invitation to draw some artwork
in our driveway with chalk. When they leave
behind remnants, I have been known to draw
a smiley face or two especially on trash day as
I greet the workers. It’s the neighborly thing
to do. We wave and greet neighbors who
drive by too. I think Mr. Rogers would approve.
May you enjoy nature and friends on your stroll!
Beautiful days in the neighborhood! ❤ xo

Bette, loved your comment! Thank you. Is Tropical Storm Fay coming your way or just rain and wind? Enjoy the weekend! oxox

Storm headed our way, but we maybe just heavy rains and high winds if it passes west of us… Stay safe and enjoy your weekend too!

Mary Ann you painted an idyllic picture that it is very hard to find these days. Your world is surrounded by flowers, happy neighbours and their children. I can almost hear you sing as you are cutting the bouquet of zinnias. In a micro world like this, there is hope. Have a great weekend!

Peter, what a lovely, uplifting comment you provided on my idyllic world, a world of hope. Thank you. I am a glass half full type person and look for the positive and good. There is enough other noise out there. I am smiling now as I see the family next door celebrating their son’s first birthday. Three tents, balloons, adults and children all gathered to mark a milestone! It is very life affirming to me. I hope you diminish any negative noise out there and find your own perfect sanctuary at home. Life is for living! Have a grand weekend yourself and celebrate life! ^^__^^

I loved this post full of neighborly happenings. It would be wonderful to have chalk art and children to draw it. None of our driveways are paved, and we have no sidewalks. For that matter, we don’t have children, either. Logan is the only one near us.

Anne, thank you for such a lovely comment on our neighborly happenings. I have left that sidewalk chalk in our driveway should any of the young folks want to draw. I normally invite them and tell their parents. We have no sidewalks either but paved driveways are abundant. Enjoy your weekend. We are singing again tonight at church which is still only 25% capacity even though the Governor allows 33%. I won’t quibble though. Enjoy! oxox

I’m not sure what we are doing for worship tomorrow. John and David helped tape two services to be streamed tomorrow and next week. They may go to the service outdoors, but I don’t want to go again. It will be on a slope where the folding chairs tilt backward. In addition, the bathrooms are closed. I’ll sit at the computer with a hymnbook and sing whatever part I want.
I think it’s fantastic that you provide chalk for the young artists. They will remember that the rest of their lives.
Hope you have a great Sunday. oxox

Anne, I too would stay at home with the hymnbook as well as a bathroom. No tilting-down-the-hill-chairs for me either. Inclement weather an issue too. Is your husband a minister or does he just help with filming? I see the tripod at church where the 9 AM services are recorded and available online. I prefer live and in person as long as I am able. You have given me a wonderful idea with a bucket of sidewalk chalk for the neighborhood “kids” of all ages! Right now the two pieces were left there for me and my creative instincts. Now for some rehearsal time before singing in a little. Enjoy your Sunday and live streaming. oxox

I don’t see my comment here, and this is the second one today that seems to have disappeared.
John and David were singing in the “choir” for those taped services. Since the COVID-19 lockdown, four or five choir members have sung the hymns that are part of the services. John has always been heavily involved in church work. At our former church, he sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and was on the church council for the 45 years we were there. He was a ship chartering broker in Manhattan, finding ships for cargoes and cargoes for ships.
I see I misunderstood your pieces of chalk. That’s marvelous that you would draw on your driveway. I’ll bet people have seen your art and enjoyed it a lot. I would certainly be an appreciative audience.

I thought I saw both comments from you. This is my new computer but that shouldn’t make a difference. I’ll check and see if both your comments are here. I just responded to the other one and mentioned a poem about ships as a blog entry. Happy Sunday. oxox

Anne, what a delightful background your husband enjoys. A poem on ships would be a cool blog topic. Having meaningful church connections is so important for the soul. Music too! Tonight we had young missionary teens here who will work with elementary school kids during the day and with teens for two hours at night. How neat that is. They were here one year ago too. Happy Sunday live streaming to you! oxox

Anne, they are. We don’t get to socialize in our gathering space now though; so, we were unable to chat with them. They do good work and much needed now since schools have been closed for so long. oxox

We had a lovely Sunday. The fellows came back from outdoor church as I was seeing the end of the taped service. We ate at a restaurant new to us in Waynesville and drove one section of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Hope you’re had a pleasant day. oxox

Anne, sounds like perfect timing and a lovely day. The Blue Ridge Parkway is a beautiful stretch of scenery. We did FaceTime with our daughter from her bridal shower on LI. We decided some time ago not to do the some 7 hr. trip and back again nor did we want to overnight this time. She had a nice group of young ladies for the occasion. Then I decided to tackle a new project from our local singing group. We are to record ourselves individually and upload to drive. What happens after that I don’t know since I am not on the editing side of this. My husband sang his tenor part with me several times. My trial run had and still has me in stitches. Where to look for the video? The computer monitor. My recording has me singing to the ceiling it seems or at least trying to watch that spider go across. Short piece of music at 1 min. 25 sec. and a tune we have sung at church but the music is a tad different. I am certain you are familiar with How Can I Keep From Singing? This is a fun activity. From the other side of the conductor’s baton! oxox

That’s lovely that you could attend the shower virtually. I missed the fact that she is engaged. When is the wedding?
I’ve seen recordings like you are doing, but I’ve never been involved in one. Yes, I know the piece. It sounds like fun. I’d love to hear/see it if you get a link for it. oxox

Anne, again thank you for the comment. Her wedding is the end of Sept. and looked a tad iffy at one point because of all the covid lockdowns. So far it is going ahead as planned. On LI. So far we are using google drive links. I refuse to anything via Zoom and let the Director know my/our reservations. Zoom’s servers and in China, and I have great distrust for potential spying and privacy issues. I am uncertain how the final product is to be shared so it is unclear to me at this point if it will be or if it is just for fun for our group. When I know more, I’ll let you know. A good week ahead! oxox

Good. I just finished another response to you. It matters not. Sometimes that right hand doesn’t know what the left is doing. Case in point: my oatmeal with lots of berries. I had already put it on the dining room table when I opened the microwave only to find it not there. Mid-conversation with my husband probably. Life is wonderful! oxox
